Mixer: KitchenAid vs Bosch

If you’re in the market for buying a kitchen appliance, there are many factors to consider. You’ll need to think about its size, versatility, color and design as well as price. But one of the most important aspects might be deciding on whether to go with Bosch or KitchenAid.

To help decide which brand is best for you, this blog will detail what each company offers among their top models and offer some thoughts on when each might make sense for your needs based on the information provided. Again, there are many ways to slice the kitchen appliance marketplace and it’s not one size fits all.

The Bosch KHB560THB looks very similar in its design to the KitchenAid KSB560. Both of them have a number of attachments that make it easy to use for almost any task you can think of. Attachments such as the mixing beater, whisk, dough hook and general mixing paddle are included with each appliance. However, one distinct difference between these two models is that the KitchenAid KSB560 has a spiral dough hook with a rubber coating while the attachments on the Bosch’s mixer have no coating at all.

The Bosch KHB560THB is a bit bigger than the KitchenAid KSB560. It’s 13 inches wide, 17 inches tall and 8.5 inches deep, while the KitchenAid KSB560 is 11.5 wide, 15.25 inches tall and 7 inches deep (the KSB560 has a small footprint compared to its competitors). The Bosch’s motor is 500 watts while the KitchenAid is only 450 watts so it has a slight edge in power, although this doesn’t really matter when all you need to do is fill a glass with batter or knead dough. The Bosch also weighs 13 pounds while the KitchenAid measures 14 pounds which gives it more heft in your hands.

Is Bosch Mixer is the Best?

To get a great mix you’ll want to choose a model with an adjustable speed control so you can adjust the power of the motor. Since the KSB560 is only 450 watts, it’s not powerful enough for warping bread dough or deep-frying an egg. The extra weight of the Bosch also means that it’s more difficult to handle than the KitchenAid, especially if you’re making cookies.

The KitchenAid KSB560 is available in both 784 and 543 series models which are two different sizes depending on how many attachments you need along with the size of your family. The 543 series is the smaller version with only a mixing beater and whisk, perfect for small-sized families. The 784 version is bigger which comes with an additional bowl attachment. As an example, the 784 has a bowl measuring capacity of 8 quarts while the 543 has 6.5 quarts.

When you first use your new mixer, you might have some difficulties at first while using its attachments properly because they aren’t included in a manual. But after using it a few times you’ll learn how to handle each one and get used to it.

Bosch Universal Plus Mixer 800w?

If you decide on this model, I’d recommend buying the KHB860XTR instead as it’s a more powerful Bosch mixer that has attachments for kneading, cake making and bread dough. The 800w of power covers for most normal kitchen tasks such as mixing batter, making bread dough, whipping egg whites and thickening sauces.

The Gefu Spiralfix Universal Mixer is different from the rest of the mixers reviewed because it doesn’t have a motor but instead has a series of whisks that rotate at different speeds. It also comes with a number of dough hooks which are covered in silicone to prevent them from damaging your hands when you’re using them. The mixer is extremely strong, sturdy and effective.

The KitchenAid Commercial Stand Mixer KSM150PS could be the best all-around model. You can use it to mix, whisk, beat and knead with all of its attachments included. The only downside is that it’s a little more expensive than the rest of the models tested with prices around $600-$800 depending on where you buy it from. The KSM150PS also has a more powerful motor that mixes at speeds of 4500 rpm so it’s great for cooking thick batters such as cookie dough or cake batter.

The KitchenAid KHM1170FL is the top-of-the-line model from KitchenAid. It has a 700 watts motor with an adjustable speed control making it possible to adjust the power of the motor from low to high depending on what you’re making. The dishwasher safe bowl can also be removed for easy quick cleaning. The KHM1170FL is also more versatile than other models because it comes with an additional bowl and dough hook, making it one of the biggest and most powerful models in this review.

Regardless of which brand you choose, if you’re looking for a good mixer that’s reasonably priced, then look no further than the Bosch Universal Plus or KitchenAid Commercial Stand Mixers.

Where To Buy Bosch Universal Plus Mixer?

The Bosch Universal Plus Mixer 800w will cost you about $800. It’s usually sold at Sears, Walmart and Amazon.com

Where To Buy KitchenAid Commercial Stand Mixer KSM150PS?

The KitchenAid Commercial Stand Mixer KSM150PS costs around $525. It’s usually sold at Sears, Walmart and Amazon.com

Are There Knock Off KitchenAid Mixers?

Yes. You can buy second-hand Bosch Mixer KHD850 or KHB760 from Amazon for about $300.

You can also find KitchenAid Mixers used on Ebay for about $200. However, it’s very important that you check the feedback of the seller before buying to make sure you get the model you want (there are other brands that offer second-hand KitchenAid mixers such as Kohler, Wagner and Kenmore).

What Do I Need To Know About KitchenAid Mixer?

For best results, use a 16-inch ruler to measure the thickness of your dough or batter while it’s swirling in your mixer. This will help ensure a consistent rise. Using a U-shaped measuring spoon or a measuring cup with the inside of the bowl can also be used.

It’s important to knead your dough at the correct temperature of between 80°F – 85°F so that it has enough time to develop gluten and rise properly. If you’re making pizza dough, don’t let it rise over 100°F or else it might not have enough “grip.”

For most recipes, use your stand mixer for 5 minutes of mixing followed by 10 minutes of kneading. The stand mixer is more powerful and will allow you to work faster and with less effort.

The Bosch Universal Plus Mixer 800w is one of the most powerful mixers on the market with a 700 watt motor that will make all of your baking tasks easier.

Lastly, it’s important to check your mixer before each use just to make sure that it’s not faulty and if it is, get a refund or exchange. Most people have their own bad experiences when they buy a cheap KitchenAid Mixer. While I did have some bad experience with my previous KitchenAid Stand Mixer (KSM350ER) I’ve had no problem since buying the KSB560 as I mentioned in this review.

Kitchenaid Mixer Vs Other Brands?

When you’re looking for a mixer, you should compare KitchenAid and Bosch Universal Plus but also Proctor Silex, Hamilton Beach and Gorilla. These are the other brands to consider if the KitchenAid Stand Mixer is too expensive for you. While I haven’t used any of them personally (I’ve only researched them on Amazon), I’ve had recommendations from friends who own Bosch Universal Plus or Hamilton Beach Mixer.

The Proctor Silex is a popular brand among beginners so it’s worth mentioning here because it’s fairly good with a price tag of around $40. The biggest problem that I’ve found with this model is that it tends to wobble while mixing which might make your mixture uneven. It also has a low-quality motor that only goes up to 750 watts so might not be good enough for mixing doughs with large amounts of ingredients such as bread dough.

The Hamilton Beach Mixer is very similar to KitchenAid and costs about $30-$50 more than the KitchenAid models. Although Hamilton Beach has a good reputation for making quality products, it pales in comparison to KitchenAid Mixers which are of top-quality materials and have made cooking very easy for millions of people around the world.

Final Thoughts:

If you’re looking for a powerful mixer that will help you make everything from cakes to bread, then the KitchenAid Stand Mixer is the best choice on the market and will make your life easier. The Bosch Universal Plus Mixer 800w is also a good choice and it might be better if you’re planning to make a lot of breads, pizza doughs and batter. But it’s also more expensive than the KitchenAid models.

Although they are both good mixers, there are still other models that might be worth considering such as Proctor Silex or Hamilton Beach stand mixer. These brands have been making products for years and tend to offer better value than the KitchenAid Stand Mixer depending on what you need from your mixer. However, in most cases, I would stick with either Bosch or KitchenAid as they have the best reputation for quality and durability.
