Should I Buy a Tilt-Head or Bowl-Lift KitchenAid Mixer?

When it comes to home appliances, the KitchenAid Mixers are without a doubt one of the best you can buy. Whether it’s for baking or mixing, these guys know what they’re doing — which is why I was so excited to finally purchase my first KitchenAid mixer. I got myself a bowl lift model and have been enjoying it’s features ever since.

We all have different situations, I know. And that means for some of you, the tilt-head models will work better for your kitchen layout.

I decided to put together this article to help you decide whether you should get a tilt-head or bowl lift KitchenAid mixer . There are a few differences between the two, which I’ll go over here with you.

I’ll also include helpful pros and cons of both models. Which one should you buy?

A bowl lift model can be considered stronger than a tilt-head model. That being said, the hopper on these machines is not as stable. A bowl-lift can get heavy and difficult to lift. Tilt head models are much more stable and easy to manage even when fully loaded with ingredients . You can put less things in your mixer because the tilt-head design allows for a smaller footprint.  The biggest difference between a bowl lift and a tilt-head is the angle at which the bowl sits in relation to the head of the machine. Tilt head models sit at a 20° angle, while the bowl up style sits at 45°. If you plan to use the mixer on a counter-top, you should go with a tilt-head model. If it’s going to be on a table, I would recommend a bowl lift model. The idea behind this is that you will want to be able to watch your mixer while it runs. This way you can check if anything is getting stuck or if there are any problems with the mixing process . Tilt head models are typically smaller and lighter than bowl lift models . This means they’re easier to move around and store in places like cabinets or pantries. The machine comes with a number of attachments for different mixing jobs. The tilt head has a smaller variety, but it does come with a dough hook, flat beater and whisk . Bowl lift models come with an additional spiral dough hook (this is the one I use every time I bake bread or make pizza). This attachment makes your mixing quick and easy. You can actually use the spiral dough hook on any Kitchen Aid mixer; it’s not exclusive to bowl lift models. Both bowls are 5QT. The bowl on the bowl lift model sits at thirty-five degrees in relation to the head of the mixer, while the tilt-head model sits at twenty degrees .

Which mixer is better tilt head or bowl lift?

Overall, both machines are pretty good. Which one you buy depends on your particular situation and needs. Keep in mind what I said about the pros and cons.

I personally have a bowl lift model, but I am happy to recommend a tilt-head model for anyone who isn’t comfortable using this contraption . Read on to learn more:

Pros: Cons: Tilt head models are smaller and lighter than bowl lift models . Bowl lift models have a greater capacity , making them better for bigger batches of food. Tilt head models are easier to store in places like cabinets or pantries . Bowl lift models are a better fit for counter tops . The bowl lift enters the mixing head at thirty-five degrees, while the tilt head is at twenty degrees. Tilt head models have fewer attachments than bowl lift models . Spiral dough hooks are exclusive to bowl lift models and added bonuses with few attachments.

What is the difference between tilt head and bowl lift?

For some of you, this might be your first time purchasing a KitchenAid mixer.

In the image above, you can see that the head of the machines is tilted in one case, and raised in another. This is what differentiates a bowl lift from a tilt head model.

The bowl on my machine sits at thirty-five degrees in relation to the head of the mixer . In other words, my bowl sits at an angle when it sits inside the mixer.

While I have a tilt-head model , there are also bowl lift models . Does this mean that one type is better than another? No . It’s just a matter of preference and where you plan on placing your machine .

What is the most popular color of KitchenAid mixer?

I can tell you from experience that the mixing bowls from KitchenAid are a big deal . If you’ve ever seen one in real life, you know what I mean. And if you want to show off your machine as well, these color options will work for that.

There are several colors to choose from and all of them work great. They’re not too fancy, and they look nice on most mixer styles.

I have never had an issue with quality when it comes to the mixing bowls; they have lasted me many years and still function perfectly.

They’re available in the following colors: red , white , chrome , black , ivory and stainless steel .

There is a version for tilt-heads and another for bowl lift .

How do you adjust the tilt head on a KitchenAid mixer?

Adjusting the tilt head on a KitchenAid mixer is simple.

You can adjust the tilt of the head manually (up or down) using the “lock/unlock” button.

I actually prefer to use my mixer without it locked in place . That way, I can quickly and easily raise the mixer if I need to. But locking it in place is also very convenient when you have a recipe calling for more mixing time, more mixing time and more mixing time .

How do I fix my KitchenAid mixer head?

These machine parts are normal wear and tear on any particular model, but there are certain things that can cause problems.

A bad head will be a common issue with these machines. In most cases, it is also an easy fix, but I would ask my customer service rep to make sure before I charged them (always call ahead!).

How do you take apart your KitchenAid mixer?

These are pretty easy to take apart. The hardest part will be getting the locking lug out of the part of the machine that attaches to the bowl. Just make sure you don’t break anything while disassembling!
