Should I Buy A Hand Mixer Or Stand Mixer?

Should I Buy A Hand Mixer Or Stand Mixer?

A hand mixer and a stand mixer both work to mix ingredients, but the stand mixer is much more powerful and effective. Here are some pros and cons of each so you can make your decision:

Hand Mixer

Pros

+Portable, lightweight design

+Saves counter space

Cons

-Only 3 speeds available

-Mixing bowls need to be hand washed

-Risk of arm cramping from mixing for too long

Stand Mixer (Type A)

Pros

+Powerful motor with 10 settings   +Large capacity mixing bowl allows for baking recipes with large quantities of ingredients or foods that need to be beaten well. This also helps in preventing spills on the counter if a recipe overflows.

+Mixing bowl and beaters are dishwasher safe  +Additional attachments available: meat grinder, pasta maker, ice cream maker etc

Cons

-Large size takes up counter space – May have a higher price point than a stand mixer (depending on brand) – Not portable

Stand Mixer (Type B)  (Pictured Above)  -Includes all of the benefits of the standard stand mixer but with a more compact design. This comes in handy if you’re looking to minimize counter space. Also includes a dough hook which can be used for many types of recipes that require kneading dough.

-Same motor as the standard stand mixer – Has 3 speed settings  (same as hand mixer)

Pro Tip:  If you’re like me and have a lot of arm cramping issues from doing too much mixing trying to use a hand mixer is not recommended . If you do have arm cramping try grabbing a sponge or some more non-stick cooking spray when mixing. You can also switch to using your wrist instead of your arm and make an effort to mix with it at 90 degrees.

Which is better hand mixer or stand mixer?

Well, that depends on what you’re looking for. If it’s a portable mixer you want, I suggest getting a hand mixer. If you’re looking for more power and the ability to mix larger quantities of foods, the stand mixer is a better choice. Also keep in mind how much counter space you have and if you’re willing to put forth more effort with washing mixing bowls, etc.

Can a stand mixer be used as a hand mixer?

Yes, but it’s not recommended. Due to the power of stand mixers the wire whip can easily break (and this doesn’t even take into account how easy it would be to accidentally hit your hand with it if you switch hands with the beaters).

Is Kitchenaid hand mixer worth it?

Yes, absolutely. It’s a fantastic stand mixer that comes with all of the attachments you could ever need and is easy to clean. It’s a great value at $279 but can sometimes be found cheaper on eBay. Click here to see their current pricing and other details. I would avoid Kitchenaid mixers that are older or those that have had issues like the one below…

Kitchenaid Hand Mixer- Original or Professional (you can buy it here or find more information)

Is this Kitchenaid mixer worth saving up for? Not really. There are plenty of other options with lower unit prices and similar overall quality as Kitchenaid besides Kitchenaid itself. In fact, I would even go so far as to say I’d save up for a better stand mixer than this one.

Pro Tip: Use your hand mixer on the lowest setting possible and when you’re finished with it, use a dish towel to hold the beaters as you wash them. This minimizes the risk of them hitting your hands while they spin.

Is there any difference between a hand mixer and stand mixer?

A hand mixer and stand mixer both work to mix ingredients and can both accomplish that goal effectively. The biggest difference is the power of each. A stand mixer is more powerful and can attain more speeds. Also, a hand mixer will use only two wire beaters while a stand mixer can have multiple attachments that you’ll be able to attach to the beaters.

The main difference between hand mixers and stand mixers is the power of each. Stand mixers have much more power than a hand mixer but aren’t as portable or efficient since a stand mixer takes up counter space whereas a hand mixer can be stored away in the cupboard when not in use and even carried around if necessary .

What are hand mixers good for?

Hand mixers are great for mixing ingredients that won’t be mixed (like eggs) or foods that need to be mixed in batches of less than a cup like eggs, cream and small amounts of flour. Hand mixers are also fantastic for making dough and kneading bread.

Stand mixers can be used with many accessories to do everything from mixing large recipes to professional baking. Stand mixers are powerful and can do all of these things, but a hand mixer is much more portable and lightweight. If you’re looking for the benefits of having a durable stand mixer but would like something that’s more portable than say…

Are KitchenAid hand mixers Made in USA?

No. Kitchenaid mixers are not made in the USA, but their mixers are still made in the USA. Kitchenaid is a popular brand and the majority of their products are made overseas (I’ve even heard that the plastic that makes up their mixers is made in China).

I was told by many people I know as well as independent reviews online that these kitchen aid mixers just aren’t worth it. I can’t say for sure if this is true but from my personal experience and being a huge fan of KitchenAid products I can tell you they’re absolutely worth it!  KitchenAid has delicious mixing bowls, attachments and beaters with amazingly functional design (not to mention they’re long lasting) with quality materials.

How do I choose a hand mixer?

If you’re in the market for a hand mixer there are a few things to consider. First of all, consider how much you’re willing to spend on one – they can be inexpensive or expensive, depending on what you’re looking for. If this is your first time buying a hand mixer I recommend getting something in the $20-$50 range. There are many options that fit into this price range and will suit you well until you know what kinds of recipes require using one (at which point it should be easy for you to determine if it’s worth investing in a more expensive hand mixer).

How long do hand mixers last?

A hand mixer can last many years if taken care of properly but do keep in mind hand mixers aren’t designed for high-speed mixing and should never be used on the highest setting. Also, if you’re using a mixer that’s over 10 years old, it’s best to get a warranty from the manufacturer.

Final Thoughts:

Hand mixers aren’t essential, but they are great for mixing smaller quantities of ingredients and can come in handy for a variety of other tasks. They’re also very useful for making dough and kneading bread. Hand mixers are not meant to replace stand mixer s if you’re looking for something that can mix larger quantities of ingredients, knead dough , or make anything else besides whipped cream.

I hope this post has helped you understand more about hand mixers and how they compare to stand mixers.
