Should You Hand Held Mix or Use a Table Mixer?

When baking, there are a few different methods that you can choose from depending on what kind of cake or cupcakes you are trying to make. One of the most common methods is called hand-held mixing. This means that instead of using a table mixer, it’s just the two of you in your kitchen with a paddle and whisk.

The best part about hand-held mixing is that it is considered by many to be an easier method than using a table mixer because without one, there’s not as much technical skill needed. All you need to do is put all the ingredients in a bowl and mix them up, with a minimal amount of technical skills required.

I decided to give hand held mixing a try to compare my results with the results that I get when using the separate bowl method. Overall, I’d say that hand held mixing gets much better results in my experience, but sometimes I think that hand-held mix has some drawbacks. Let me explain:

It takes time for the ingredients to mix by themselves when you’re just doing it by hand. You have to stir and whisk for awhile before it’s fully mixed. This can slow down your pace of getting through all the ingredients.

If the ingredients are starting to get a bit too light in color, it can be hard to tell when that is happening because it’s not very obvious when you’re just mixing by hand.

There is more of a possibility for making an unevenly shaped cake with just your hands as opposed to using a table mixer. With the table mixer, it’s much harder to make an uneven cake with no way of knowing if you’ve pressed down on the batter too hard when you’re stirring by hand.

With just your hand and a whisk, you have to be careful about how much you’re mixing since you don’t have a mixer to help with that. If the batter is too sticky, you could easily get it everywhere and make a mess.

When I’m making cupcakes, I like to use the table mixer method because I feel like it gives me more control over how my cupcakes turn out. But sometimes when I’m making larger cakes or other desserts, it’s hard to do with just my hands and a whisk. There’s just not enough power behind each mix that makes it easier for me to mix things together.

So in closing, I must say that there really is not a right or wrong way to mix things when you’re using your hands and a whisk. All that matters is what works best and what you like doing most! I’m just happy that I’ve been able to find a nice balance between hand-held mixing and using the table mixer, which has worked out very well for me.

It consists of two or three attachments.
