Also, black is often used in headlines and captions to emphasize the key elements of a design. Black also has a dramatic effect on many other colors, particularly red — as you’ll see. And if you want to play with the light and shadow contrast even more, use white or shades of gray on a black background.

You can sometimes use red for blood (remember our discussion about red and black?), but you don’t see that very often because it’s not really considered to be a “generic” color for blood — which is why it’s often replaced with purple or some other color.
