As I was trying to decide which size of KitchenAid stand mixer to buy, I came across this blog post with a similar question. It’s nice to see that most people agree that the larger the better, but it’s also interesting that they mention why they think so. Let’s face it, one person’s opinion is just as good as another so you don’t have to worry about being wrong or not getting your money’s worth.

I’m also curious about what you guys think. I’m a big fan of the 5-quart KitchenAid, but I don’t want to make the same mistake that other people have and buy a smaller one when they could get a larger one for the same price already. I guess it just depends on how you cook and how much you like to cook.

The truth is, for the most part, people WILL buy a smaller mixer just because it’s cheaper but it’s not the best choice when there are other options. Here’s what I found:

Here’s the thing though, I think that the 5 quart Artisan model is the best bang for your buck when choosing between sizes. You can make three batches of a standard cake and whip cream to go on top with room to spare! The 6 quart model? Yeah I don’t know about that one. They say that you can bake an entire pizza in it but I’ve yet to see anyone actually do it.

Let me know if you have. (I’ll share my recipe for the dough at the end of this post!) Regardless, I have found that Artisan is the best choice for most people.  How many times a week do you bake or cook? How many people live in your household?

This is a really nice-sized table top mixer too. I have this one and it works very well!

So here are some rules to follow when buying a stand mixer:

1- If you plan on making large batches of cookies, breads, cakes, etc… go with either the 5 or 6 quart model . Yes they are larger but they also make mixing easier. If you don’t like the hassle of needing to always wash the bowl, by a set of attachments. They can be found in my accessories section.

2- If you plan on making small batches, are living on your own or just want something portable to bring with you to get-togethers, etc… buy a 3 quart mixer . The smaller size makes it easier to store and you will probably not be using it as much.

3- If you don’t plan on using your mixer often or just want something that looks nice sitting on a counter (or if the other two options are too expensive) buy a 2 quart model . It is the smallest you can get because Kitchenaid does not make a 1 quart mixer.

4- Buy the color you want.

How do I choose a KitchenAid mixer?

Here’s what I want to know: Am I going to be using it often? Do I need it or is it just going to sit on a countertop? What size do I want?

Let’s talk about size. The first thing everyone looks at when they are shopping is the size. There are three options: 2, 3 and 5 quarts. If you have a small kitchen, go with a 3 quart mixer. It’s small and easy to store. If you don’t have much money but still want a KitchenAid, buy the smallest one you can find but don’t expect much. If you have a tiny kitchen and don’t plan on using your mixer often, buy the 2 quart model. It’s small and inexpensive but will still do the job. If you want the biggest one and can afford it, go with the 5 quart mixer . It’s bigger than most of them and has everything you need: motor power, speed control, a large mixing bowl, buttery soft metal beater paddles and durable housing so it will last for many years.

I’m going to shoot for the 5 quart if I can afford it. The one I have works great but I want to be able to make a big batch of banana bread. I’m going to buy the accessories kit and some recipes. I’m so excited! One of the best things about KitchenAid stand mixers is that they are portable. Mine has a flat base and can move around easily. Here is a video of me using my Artisan mixer with a few of the attachments that I bought for it. It really does make baking easier, more fun and makes you feel like you know what you’re doing when it’s done right!

Is it worth getting a KitchenAid mixer?

Are you looking to upgrade your old stand mixer? Are you a busy parent who wants a stand mixer but doesn’t want to spend a lot of money? Do you plan on making large batches of cookies, breads, cakes, etc… and just want one unit that will perform all those functions? Does it have to be portable? Does it have to be pretty? Do you think the motor is durable enough, or are you concerned that it might not last very long if used frequently, or do you plan on using it infrequently and want something that is easy to clean? Well then I’ve got some great news for you!

The KitchenAid mixer is worth the investment. The cast aluminum used to make the bowl is rust resistant and a lot harder than stainless steel. It will last a long time, especially if you keep it out of the dishwasher because that’s where the damage starts! My Artisan mixer has been through a lot! First I used it to bake bread and cookies for my kids, then I started using it to make simple desserts like cheesecake, pies and cake. After that I got into making muffins and they were SO GOOD. Now I’m using my mixer every day, sometimes twice a day!

What are the benefits of buying a KitchenAid mixer?

If you are interested in purchasing a KitchenAid stand mixer, but aren’t sure if it’s worth the money, here are the benefits:

1- It’s sturdy. My mixer was made in the USA and is built to be strong and durable. My mother has a KitchenAid and it has survived her use time and time again. It could probably withstand another 100 years of baking bread, cookies, and cheesecake! (My brother would probably disagree though!) The motor on it is also smooth and powerful. I can’t believe how well this works!

2-The attachments are easy to use. The attachments that come with my Artisan mixer were simple to understand when I first used them. The recipes that come with them are also pretty easy to follow. I think that the KitchenAid brand is the best because they are known for making quality products and a lot of people have had great luck with them.

3- The price is reasonable and affordable. A good price point for a 5 quart mixer can be anywhere from $400-$600 , depending on what you are looking for and what size you want . If you’re thinking about buying one, but don’t have a lot of money to spend, it may be wise to buy one of their smaller models, like an Artisan or Classic . They usually run from $200-$300 , which is much more reasonable than most traditional mixers.

4- I love that it looks so pretty! My favorite part about my Artisan mixer is the color! It’s a pretty shade of green and looks so professional. When I first saw it, I was thrilled because the color wasn’t something that I expected. Most of the mixers at the store I was looking at had a dull finish and looked cheap to me. That’s not something you want to look at when you are pouring flour all over your countertops.

5- KitchenAid mixers have nice, quality accessories like beaters, whisks, dough hooks, etc… that are hard to come by in other brands. These accessories will definitely make your recipes taste better. I love my dough hooks for making pizza dough. These small attachments make things much easier for you, and will make your baking more enjoyable.

6- Certain brands get good reviews on Amazon. You’ll see a lot of reviews for KitchenAid mixers as well as other brands that are much cheaper like Black & Decker. I think I’ve seen mixed reviews on the Black & Decker brand but there were some that said they were not impressed with their customer service and the mixers kept breaking down on them.

Do all KitchenAid attachments fit all models?

The KitchenAid website has a lot more information on their attachments and how they fit with each model. The attachments do vary a bit but most of them will fit all models. Of course, there is some crossover in that the Pro Line models will have some of the same attachments but the Classic, Artisan, and the 5 Quart models won’t have all those attachments because they are a little more specific to those models.

If you want to know what brand my mixer is and what type of mixer it is , I’ve put together a helpful chart below so you can see if your model can use similar accessories . It’s also helpful for knowing which accessories will work with each model.

How much flour can a KitchenAid mixer handle?

I’ve never had any problems with a KitchenAid mixer when it comes to how much flour it can handle. The most I ever added to my mixer was about 5 cups of flour, which was for baking bread for the whole family. My mother had a KitchenAid and she made bread with it all the time and always had no problems!

How much flour can a KitchenAid mixer handle?

A lot! As a matter of fact, if you put too much flour in your mixture and don’t have room in the bowl to mix it up, you can remove the bottom of your bowl and use your spatula to get some of that flour off before putting the bowl back on.

CONCLUSION:

What can I say? My KitchenAid mixer has come a long way since the beginning. It’s literally been used for baking everything all over the place. I’ve baked cakes, muffins, breads, cookies, and all kind of stuff with it. I haven’t had any problems with it and I’m sure that it will last me a long time, especially if I keep it out of the dishwasher because that’s where the damage starts! It has definitely earned its place on my kitchen counter and is one of my favorite kitchen appliances!
