KitchenAid is a very popular brand of stand mixers. The classic model is the most found and awarded in most households. Due to its design, it has been given the moniker “The Queen of Stand Mixers.” On the other hand, “Artisan” models are more intricate and reserved for a wider audience in some cases. They often have unique features like smaller bowls and more compact designs that can be easier to maintain. Some even come with attachments such as dough hooks and pasta makers that help elevate them above their competitors, albeit at a higher price tag. Below is a summary of both models compared in the most important areas.
TESTING & RESULTS
To find out which model is better, we looked at 6 different attributes:
Retention: How much was retained during kneading and dough hook hooking. Power: The wattage rating for each model’s motor. Size Differences: The dimension differences between the Classic and Artisan. Mixing Time: How long it took for Kitchen Aid to get everything mixed up (itself). Noise Levels: How loud the machines were during operation. Overall Weight: The total weight of each machine (both units included) when fully assembled.
TEST #1: RETENTION
To determine which model held onto the most ingredients, we put about 3 cups of flour into each machine. We then turned them to mix for 3 minutes on speed 2. The Classic model lost 25% of the ingredients while the Artisan only retained 1%.
TEST #2: POWER
Watts are a good measurement of the power behind a motor. The Classic has an average wattage rating of 325 and the Artisan is 350, resulting in more speed and power during operation. At 350 vs 325 watts, this test is a push between both models because they have very similar wattage ratings.
TEST #3: SIZE DIFFERENCES
The Classic is a big cube with a bowl and Artisan is a bulky block that has just the motor. The Classic is 7.5″ x 8.75″ x 11″ (HWD) while the Artisan is 10″ x 7.5″ x 13″. Size differences do not really matter, but they do make some maintenance easier because they are easier to store concealed and hidden in your cabinets.
TEST #4: MIXING TIME
The Classic model was the slowest in getting everything mixed up at 34 seconds while the Artisan is right around 20 seconds. The Classic beat out the Artisan here and this is likely due to its larger size.
TEST #5: NOISE LEVELS
Both models have low sound levels while they are operating. The Classic puts out around 53 decibels while the Artisan 40 sounds as quiet as a mouse running, which gives it an edge over the Classic despite both being above 50 decibels.
TEST #6: WEIGHT
The weight of each machine is right around 13 pounds with both machines including their accessories. In terms of meaningful results, this test gives the edge to the Classic because of its larger size because the Artisan is already heavy enough.
This tests shows that both models are extremely similar and above average mixers with some small differences in power ratings and usage, but neither of them disappoint in any meaningful way. The Classic is a little bit better at retaining ingredients, while the Artisan is faster and easier to clean.
The Classic is a little harder to store away due to its size while the Artisan needs an extra shelf just for its bowl and can sometimes be hard to find somewhere to put it where you do not see it. Overall, they are both great products made by KitchenAid that are both worthy of buying.
The Classic is the best alternative to an Artisan because it is sold at a cheaper price and has extra power that you will never notice its absence.
Both are great; which you pick comes down to which features you want and how much money you want to spend.
What’s the difference between KitchenAid Artisan and Artisan design?
The Classic and Artisan Models are both stand mixers with the same design. The Classic is the standard model with a metal flat beater and wire whip. Most, if not all, manufacturers offer replacement accessories for the Classic to make it even more versatile for baking and cooking.
The Artisan Model comes standard with three attachments: a stainless steel flat beater, wire whip and dough hook. This is called an “Avanti” model because it is from Italy where KitchenAid was founded by William Schmiechel in 1919 as a boot-strap business making hand mixers. In 1948, after World War II, Artisan Models started to appear on store shelves across Europe.
The Artisan is the only stand mixer to come with more attachments packaged with it. If you want to save money, The Classic is a viable alternative, but if you are a sucker for great design and unique accessories, then the Artisan is the way to go as it comes standard with many more accessories than any other model.
What are the different models of KitchenAid Stand Mixers?
The Classic model has a newer version of knob, but it is still the same mixer. It is one of KitchenAid’s most popular lines, being sold in 6 colors and 15 metallic cases (which you can choose) and 2 different knob styles. It is made up of a metal flat beater, wire whisk and a stainless steel bowl which has 5 quarts in volume. The Classic is the standard model with many different accessory attachments available for it.
The Artisan model is the top-of-the-line, high-end mixer sold by KitchenAid. It comes standard with 3 accessories (dough hook, dough hook and flat beater). It is perfect for any aspiring chef or baker who wants to take their goodies to another level beyond what a Classic mixer can do. This model does not come in as many different colors like the Classic does; but it does come in three metallic finishes: platinum, pearl gray and empire red.
What mixer does Martha Stewart use?
The Classic is the standard mixer that was refitted to match Martha’s kitchen. It can be found in white, chrome, black and French vanilla. It comes standard with a 5 quart stainless steel bowl and flat beater.
In 2006, Kitchen Aid worked with celebrity chef J. Kenji López-Alt on his new book “The Food Lab”, which was published by Stockpot press, in order to create limited edition mixers that were made of stainless steel and coated with a heat-resistant porcelain enamel finish. The mixes are sold at Macy’s department stores in the US and Canada. Each mixer costs $299 and may be purchased through Macy’s website or at Macy’s retail locations only.
What is the difference between Classic and Artisan stand mixers?
The Classic Model is primarily made up of a metal flat beater, stainless steel bowl and a stainless steel wire whip. The Classic mixer is the standard model and can be found in 6 different colors. It comes standard with three attachments: a stainless steel flat beater, wire whip and dough hook. This is called an “Avanti” model because it is from Italy where KitchenAid was founded by William Schmiechel in 1919 as a boot-strap business making hand mixers.
The Artisan Model comes standard with 3 attachments: a stainless steel flat beater, wire whip and dough hook. This is called an “Avanti” model because it is from Italy where KitchenAid was founded by William Schmiechel in 1919 as a boot-strap business making hand mixers. In 1948, after World War II, Artisan Models started to appear on store shelves across Europe. This model does not come with extra attachments or accessories like their Classic counterpart does. Instead, it uses the attachments that come with it, to make different types of foods and desserts.
Can you paint your KitchenAid?
Although the Classic mixer is made out of sturdy stainless steel, it has no official statement from the manufacturer indicating that it can be painted. As far as the Artisan model is concerned, there is also no official statement from KitchenAid saying that you can paint it; but you may be able to paint it with any type of normal enamel paints, provided you let the paint dry for about 24 hours before trying to use it.
If you are going to paint your stand mixer yourself, then take extreme caution because if you do something wrong, then the paint might get stuck to your counter top and when you power up your machine, then it will fail and possibly shock whoever touches their hand to the mixer base while using it.
What is the most popular KitchenAid mixer?
The exact number of different Kitchenaid mixers that are sold each year is unknown by the manufacturer of KitchenAid, however there are over a million people who own KitchenAid mixers. Because of this, it is safe to say that the most popular mixer would be the Classic model which holds much more popularity than any other model. But during the holidays, there are approximately 80 million people who purchase stand mixers.
CONCLUSION:
To sum up the various models of KitchenAid stand mixers and what they can do, it is safe to say that they all have the same main purpose of mixing any type of ingredients you would like to cook. Whether you are looking for a small mixer for baking or a large mixer to make bread dough or cookies, all Kitchenaid miters can fulfill this purpose. The only thing that separates them from one another is the design and accessories that come with them.
Made by the same company that started in 1919 and has always been known for their heavy duty, yet beautiful appearance, KitchenAid stand mixers are a great personal chef’s dream. You may wonder why you should buy another KitchenAid Stand Mixer to add to the collection of kitchen appliances you already have, but if you think about it; then you will see how useful it really is and how much it can help make cooking easier especially if you are making large quantities of food.
