The Bosch Universal Plus is a great deal for its price.
Don’t let the relatively low price fool you, this mixer is built like a tank and is just as functional as any unit in the kitchen, only without all the bells and whistles, of course! The same attachment capabilities are there, it’s just that they’re a little more clunky to use because they’re designed to be hand held attachments.
If you know what you’re looking for, this may be the model for you. In all honesty, I would have no problem recommending this model to anyone who’s looking for a reasonably priced mixer with the power and features of something that costs a whole lot more.”

I purchased this Bosch Universal Plus KSM150PS stand mixer a few months ago, and it has been great. The price was better than the other Kitchen Aid mixers I was considering, so I thought that the quality would be downgraded some what. I was wrong. This mixer is almost exactly like my KA with a couple of exceptions:
1. The bowl is not as deep; it’s about 3/4″ shorter than the KA bowl
2. The beaters are quite different; the KA beaters are “flat” on the bottom, while the Bosch are more pointed
3. The KA mixer goes into a locking position after it has started to mix; the Bosch locks its self in position, which is not a bad thing, because sometimes you need to check on your bread dough or mix something and have it lock while it’s working
4. The bowl-lift is a bit shorter on the Bosch, but that isn’t really a problem
5. The Bosch does not tilt back for easy access; it stays straight up
6. The KA has a dough hook and 2 beater attachments, while the Bosch only has 1 attachment; but both work fine in a pinch
7. The KA also has a “Stir” attachment, which you would use if you need to stir something in a deep pot.

Nothing like a KitchenAid, but still a good buy – We bought this to replace our 12-year old KitchenAid stand mixer. The KitchenAid gear assembly broke. This is a very similar model (basically the same motor) but made in China instead of US.
It works fine, but the drive gear seems much more lightweight and plastic; it feels like it will break easily. The true test will be whether it stands up over time to thousands of mixing cycles without failure (I’m sure I’ll let you know if there are problems). My wife and I have had this machine for about 3 years (we have been baking since the 1960s) and are very pleased with the product – especially at the price!
Note that we didn’t buy this “Bosch Universal Plus” model but one made in North America. The name is a little misleading. We bought it from an Amazon seller that had no affiliation with Bosch. The seller was more than happy to ship overseas. I don’t know if this is available in the UK but it may be available through other sellers.
